Communications Manager

As Our Communications Manager, You Will:

• Report to and work with the Senior Director, Marketing & Communications to develop and execute strategies, plans and tactics to raise the profile of TLN Media Group and its related channels
• Alongside Sr. Director, work to execute key sponsorship, high profile events, partnership initiatives and community contributions
• Research and draft a variety of communications materials including but not limited to: press releases, media pitches, internal communications, talking points, presentations, TV listings, program descriptions, newsletters, social media posts
• Source and manage photography and imagery to support communication goals and campaigns
• Act as a media contact and oversee regular monitoring of media, key issues and relevant trends
• Develop relationships with key trade and consumer media and proactively pitch compelling stories to raise the profile of TLN Media Group
• Work closely with the Digital Content Coordinator to execute communications and publicity initiatives through social media platforms
• Ensure consistency and accuracy of messaging and communication content across different communication platforms, traditional and social
• Work with Programming, Sales, Web, Affiliate Relations and other teams to identify and execute communication opportunities that support business priorities
• Participate in event management and execution, as required
• Represent TLN Media Group at industry or company events and opportunities

 

What You Need To Succeed:

• A bachelor’s degree or diploma with 5+ years’ experience working in communications, media relations, and/or publicity in the Canadian broadcasting and media industry
• Understanding of the Canadian broadcasting / media landscape, including regulatory, public policy and funding
• Outstanding English-language writing skills for multiple audiences and platforms (a writing test will be administered for all candidates chosen for interviews)
• Ability to translate complex, detailed information into concise, compelling communication
• Established relationships with Canadian media and demonstrated experience developing and presenting compelling stories and content to targeted media
• Strong interpersonal skills and superb oral communication; persuasive and engaging with all types of audiences
• Confidence to act as a spokesperson if required
• Strong understanding of digital and social media platforms for communication, influence and engagement
• Experience supervising or mentoring a marketing and or communications team
• Ability to juggle multiple priorities, manage last minute details, be versatile and flexible with competing demands and demonstrate grace under pressure
• A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
• Strong initiative, proactive, and self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and on a team
• Basic desktop publishing skills are a definite asset
• Fluency in Spanish is a definite asset

Digital Content Coordinator

As Our Digital Content Coordinator, You Will:

• Create an online presence for TLN Media Group channels, brands and activities
• Manage digital content for multiple social media platforms and websites within demanding timeframes
• Support marketing and communication priorities with digital initiatives (e.g. e-newsletters, on-line surveys, execution of client ad campaigns etc.)
• Identify and research target audiences and develop appropriate content
• Track and measure digital and social media usage and make recommendations for leveraging digital platforms to boost awareness and engagement
• Monitor online trends, stakeholder activity and identify opportunities to raise awareness through online and digital associations
• Build and refine graphic designs for websites, edit digital images, design page layouts, and use electronic publishing software
• Convert raw images and layouts from a graphic designer into CSS/HTML themes
• Provide video production, photography and editing services to support marketing and communication goals

 

What You Need To Succeed:

• A bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Digital Media, Graphic Design or the equivalent
• 3-5 years experience working in digital content development
• Demonstrated experience in web management using WordPress
• Experience using online platforms such as Google Analytics, DFP, AdWords, Facebook Ads, Twitter Ads
• Experience executing influencer campaigns using digital platforms and tools
• Good working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Experience in Photoshop, Fireworks, Premier or equivalent application(s)

Graphic Designer: Freelance Opportunity

The successful candidate will be a self-starter, working independently to assist in the creation and design of on-air, print and online digital material.  Primary responsibilities will be in all aspects of graphic design including newspaper and magazine advertisements, outdoor media, direct mailers, press kits, on air elements, and online digital material.

As Our Freelance Graphic Designer, You Will:

  • Create and design (linear and non-linear) on-air, print and web materials
  • Provide creative and technical advice to aid in the successful completion of a project
  • Work with editors to create high-quality graphics, animation elements and other video elements for online or digital.
  • Work with web related materials to support design and functionality of website
  • Ensure technical quality of finished product
  • Cut promotional materials giving them a variety of looks and styles
  • Attend pre and post meetings as required
  • Perform other duties as required upon request.

What You Need To Succeed:

  • Working toward a diploma or degree from at a recognized post-secondary institution; or 2 years’ experience in graphic design application
  • Excellent skills on Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, HTML or Quark Express

  • Perform some data entry where required
